In 2022, the statutory minimum wage will be raised again. This time in two stages again, once on January 1st and once again on July 1st. The legal minimum wage is currently 9.60 euros.

From January 1 to June 30, 2022, the statutory minimum wage is then 9.82 euros and from July 1 to December 31, 2022 10.45 euros.

What exceptions to the minimum wage are there in 2022?

In 2022, certain groups of people are also exempted from the right to payment of a minimum wage.

The statutory minimum wage still applies not for:

  • Young people under 18 years of age without completed vocational training
  • Trainees — regardless of their age — as part of vocational training (these are subject to a minimum training allowance instead)
  • Long-term unemployed people in the first six months of employment after unemployment has ended
  • Interns if the internship is compulsory as part of school or university education
  • Interns if the internship is voluntary for up to a period of three months for professional orientation
  • Young people taking part in an entry-level qualification in preparation for vocational training or in other vocational training preparation under the Vocational Training Act
